how to dye carpet with rit

If you're looking to give your carpet a fresh, new look without investing in a major remodel project, learn how to dye carpet with Rit. This has become an increasingly popular solution for homeowners or designers wanting to update their carpets while sticking to a tight budget. Here's what you will need and how to get the job done:

Gather Supplies

Before you begin, make sure you have all of the materials and products necessary: Rit Liquid Fabric Dye; detergent or liquid shampoo; white vinegar; bucket or sink large enough for soaking; two sponges (one damp and one dry); rags or paper towels.

Prepare Carpet

Make sure your carpet is free of dirt, dust, and any other debris that may interfere with the results of dyeing. To clean it beforehand, use a vacuum cleaner. If your carpet needs more than vacuuming, spot clean problematic areas using detergent or shampoo mixed with lukewarm water. Make sure these areas are completely dry before continuing with this process.

Dye Carpet

Soak each sponge with fabric dye and press it against the carpet’s individual fibers in order to saturate them thoroughly. Repeat several times until you cover the entirety of your rug evenly with dye—about an hour total should do it! Cover any parts that aren't being dyed with plastic sheeting so they don't absorb too much color during the process.

Set Color

Mix 2 cups of white vinegar into 1 gallon hot water in a separate container. Use the damp sponge to apply this mixture on top of your already-dyed area slowly and evenly throughout the entire carpet surface; don’t put too much pressure when applying it as this will damage fibers beneath the area being dyed. Leave the setup on overnight without disturbing it – this helps set colors within fibers securely before next steps can be taken!

Rinse & Dry Carpet

Once complete, rinse out all visible dye residue by vacuuming up excess colors left behind after process has been completed—be careful though because moisture levels should still remain low! Place some towels underneath rug as well if needed—this will help absorb leftover color dripping off Rug while drying overnight in sunlight or air conditioning unit(s). Do not machine wash/dry fabric afterwards: temperature used should never exceed 40 C during washing process!
