How to clean carpet with baking soda

Cleaning carpets can be cumbersome, especially when it requires a lot of effort. Enter baking soda. Baking soda is an effective, easy-to-use cleaning agent that’s great for everything from treating stubborn stains to freshening up carpets that have been neglected for too long. Here’s how to clean carpet with baking soda:

Vacuum the Carpet Before Sprinkling on Baking Soda

Before you sprinkle baking soda onto the carpet, you need to vacuum. Vacuuming dislodges dirt and debris embedded deep in the fibers of your carpet and gets them out of the way before they interfere with the cleaning process.

Sprinkle Baking Soda Across the Carpet

Once you've finished vacuuming, take some dry baking soda in a shaker and evenly distribute it across your carpet. Make sure you spread it in an even layer so that all areas are covered – don’t miss those hidden corners!

Let the Baking Soda Sit for at Least 15 Minutes

The most important step in cleaning your carpets with baking soda is to let it sit for at least 15 minutes before vacuuming again. This allows time for the baking soda to absorb oils and odors from your carpet’s fibers – plus, this gives any bugs setting up camp a chance to vacate as well!

Vacuum Up The Baking Soda

After letting the baking soda sit for 15 minutes (or longer if desired; just make sure not to leave it sitting overnight), go over the entire area one more time with the vacuum cleaner. This will suck up all of the leftover residue and reveal fresh, clean carpets underneath!

Clean Upholstery or Area Rugs With Baking Soda Too!

The same steps apply when using baking soda to clean fabric furniture or area rugs - just make sure not to oversaturate them with too much water during cleaning as this can lead to mold growth. Instead, concentrate on spot-cleaning where necessary, then sprinkle dry baking soda onto affected areas and let it sit until fully absorbed before wiping off any residue remaining.
